Originally, a Génopole was created in 2002 under the name “OUEST-genopole” by 11 founding members. Today the network brings together, in the two regions of Bretagne and Pays de la Loire, 38 core facilities overseen by research organizations and universities, as well as associated organizations (university hospitals, Grandes Écoles, etc.).

Its research themes cover life and environmental sciences in four areas: Sea, Agronomy, Health and Data Science.

The network

The network aims to coordinate equipment and human resources at the interregional level, to contribute to the development of core facility technologies and to support research. Its bodies, made up of scientists and representatives of GIS members, annually coordinate requests for funding for equipment and human resources from the core facilities thanks to annual interregional funding of around 2 million euros.

Biogenouest benefits from the support of the Regional Councils of Bretagne and Pays de la Loire, the GIS IBiSA and its 12 signatory members

Partners

Biogenouest is a Scientific Interest Group (GIS) made up of 12 signatory members: Anses, CNRS, lfremer, INRAE, Inria, Inserm, Nantes University, Oniris, Université d'Angers, Université Bretagne Ouest, University of South Bretagne, and Université Rennes.

Biogenouest is also supported by the Bretagne and Pays de la Loire Regions, and the GIS IBiSA.

Biogenouest has also been supported, since its foundation, by Biotech Santé Bretagne, a health and biotechnology innovation center in Bretagne and the Breton branch of the Atlanpole Biotherapies competitiveness cluster.

Team and governance

Five bodies ensure the daily operation of the network:

  • The grouping council defines Biogenouest's strategy, ensures the consistency of the actions implemented and approves Biogenouest's program of activities. Its president is elected for one year, an election with an alternation between all the signatory members (large research organizations and universities).
  • The Steering Committee ensures the implementation of decisions, monitoring the running of the GIS and its various bodies and monitoring the procedure for funding requests from the Regions.
  • The Scientific Council of Biogenouest is responsible for the scientific coordination of the network. It supports its scientific policy (integration of new core facilities, monitoring of technological axes and requests for support addressed to the Regions), its long-term orientations and the selection of unifying projects.
  • The core facilities Committee
  • The Animation Unit has the mission of animation, coordination, promotion and communication of the network and its core facilities.

Our goals

Supported by its 12 signatory members, the GIS IBiSA and the Bretagne and Pays de la Loire Regions, Biogenouest acts collectively, in particular to:

  • Fosteremergence and maintenance of efficient technological core facilities serving the interregional scientific community of life and environmental sciences, in particular by ensuring coordinated development of core facilities or by proposing the grouping of certain core facilities working in the same field.
  • Optimize the use and sharing of amenities and resources.
  • Contribute to animation and promotion actions for network core facilities.
  • Develop the quality management, or any other initiative that it would seem appropriate to pool.
  • Contribute to the training on innovative technologies.
