GO-EV meeting of October 10, 2025
On October 10th, nearly 90 participants gathered in Rennes for a day dedicated to the theme " Identification of extracellular vesicles and their cargoesResearchers, engineers, doctoral students and representatives of technological core facilities from the Greater West exchanged ideas on the latest approaches and methodological challenges related to the characterization of these structures essential to cell communication.
Identification of Extracellular Vesicles
The morning, which began with a friendly introduction over a welcome coffee, allowed us to delve into the technological aspects of identifying extracellular vesicles (EVs).
- Aurélien Dupont (TEM2C, Rennes) presented the contributions of Cryo-TEM and correlative approaches (CLEM and Cryo-CLEM) for the detailed observation of vesicles.
- Noémie Plé (IRSET, Rennes) detailed how bisphenol A influences the release of vesicles derived fromE. coli and impairs the integrity of the intestinal barrier.
- Camille Chauvin (IRSET, Rennes) explored the effects of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons on the production of mitochondrial vesicles in endothelial cells, highlighting the complexity of their subpopulations.
Cargo identification
- Lydie Sparfel (IRSET, Rennes) has shown how blood-derived vesicles and their microRNA content can serve as candidate biomarkers to assess exposure to certain pollutants such as benzo[a]pyrene.
- Julia Bonnet (IRSET, Rennes) presented transcriptomic signatures linked to the reactivation of retrotransposons in cancer-derived vesicles.
- Emmanuelle Com (Protim, Rennes) detailed the tools available on the Protim core facility for proteomic analysis of EV cargo by mass spectrometry.
Keynote, Flash presentation and Round table
Our Keynote reading, presented by Lorena Martin Jaular (Institut Curie, Paris), highlighted the functional heterogeneity of EVsproviding an integrative view of the biological mechanisms underlying their diversity and physiological role.
The session concluded with flash presentations from everyone presenting a poster. This format allowed for highlighting
the theme of their support and opened the discussion on the specific features presented.
A round table discussion, moderated by Lydie Sparfel, Lorena Martin Jaular, Eric Guédon and Mehdi Tazi, brought all participants together to discuss the issue: "Identify, pool and promote to build the future of EVs".
Discussions focused on pooling tools, standardizing methods, and collectively promoting results, continuing the collaborative dynamic of the GO-EV network. Identification will rely on best communication practices to inform users of the acquisition or presence of a device. The coordinator's support is also a valuable asset in transmitting this type of information. Resource sharing is already underway within the network, with numerous formal and informal collaborations demonstrating the dynamism and exchange within GO-EV. To address this last point, the network will soon be implementing
a directory has been set up on its website to list the devices
held by its members.
The day concluded with an open question session on the network and the presentation of awards recognizing two young female researchers:
Camille Chauvin (IRSET), prize for best oral communication
Antria Antreou (Thorax Institute), Best Poster Award
Thanks
We thank our patron hekat fluidics which allowed us to organize this event through the Nantes University Foundation. A big thank you to Lorena Martin Jaular for his inspiring presentation, as well as to all the people involved in the organization.
Thanks also to all the participants for their commitment, constructive exchanges and enthusiasm, which illustrate the vitality of the GO-EV network and its common desire to strengthen collaborations around extracellular vesicles.
This second annual meeting demonstrates the dynamism and collaborative identity of the GO-EV network. The numerous exchanges during the presentations, poster sessions, roundtable discussion, and with our sponsor are proof of this. We look forward to continuing this momentum at our upcoming events.
